Oven magic
If you have a self cleaning oven you can use the self clean cycle to get otherwise hopelessly grimy pots and pans amazingly clean.
- This works on Pyrex, Corningware, cast aluminum, and cast iron.
- Do
not
use this on teflon or any other nonstick coating. It could destroy the coating an give off toxic fumes.
- Do
not
use on thin enamel ware, we have seen a pattern of fine cracking occur.
- You
must
first remove any wood or plastic handles or they will be destroyed.
- There may be some color changes on painted aluminum pans.
- Cast iron cookware will lose its cure and must be cured again.
- Thin aluminum pans or cookie sheets will warp.
Arrange the cookware on the racks in your oven and run it through a self clean cycle. Even the most embedded varnish from years of greasy cooking will vanish completely leaving only a fine grey dust. Aluminum pots will look as if they just came from the factory although shiny places may become slightly dull.
At yard sales and flea markets good cookware is often marked way down because it appears hopelessly dirty.
